Fall foliage continues to peak this week in Garrett and Allegany counties, according to the Maryland Department of Natural Resources’ Oct. 22 fall foliage report.
In the Garrett County update, Forester Melissa Nash said the vibrant early-season color is starting to give way to the more golden and russet tones of oaks and hickory.
Elsewhere in the state, trees in central Maryland are at their midpoint and approaching peak, and DNR said cooler temperatures should help prompt change. The report suggests keeping an eye out for sugar maples, which show a range of red, orange and yellow shades this time of year.
“You can see a sunset in a single tree,” Forester Bob Schwartz said.
