Maryland’s fall put-and-take trout stockings are now complete.
This smaller stocking season serves to free up space in Maryland hatcheries for the trout that will be stocked in the spring to grow larger and provide anglers an opportunity to enjoy trout fishing in the fall.
Through October:
- Crews stocked 18,150 rainbow, golden rainbow and brown trout
- Trout were stocked into 27 waterbodies
- 15 streams/rivers
- 12 lakes/ponds
Fish stocked during the fall generally weigh slightly more than a pound each thanks to four additional months of growth in the hatchery. Several delayed harvest and catch-and-return trout management waters that were stocked will provide plenty of fun fishing throughout the winter.
Trout anglers can look forward to trout stocking resuming in February, 2027. Youth Only Trout Fishing Day will take place on March 20 and the spring season will begin on the traditional Trout Opening Day on March 27.
This work was made possible by funding from the sale of fishing licenses and stamps and fishing tackle, boats, and marine fuel.
