Join us for fun, learning, books, and community all summer long at stops across Garrett County for children ages Birth-5.This summer’s themes are: June: Wild About ANIMALS July: Wild About WHEELS August: Wild About LEGOSEach child will receive a new book, and each family will take home a learning activity and a bag of food. New Germany State Park will host Junior Ranger Park Pals, a free program for children ages 5-7, every Thursday from July 23 through August 20. Each week will feature a nature-themed program, such as identifying mammals, searching for salamanders, visiting our historic one-room schoolhouse, making old-time fishing poles, nature crafts, and other activities. All children must be supervised by a parent or guardian. The programs are free (supported by the Friends of New Germany State Park), but donations are welcome. Registration is required and space is limited. To register, please email noah.manges@maryland.gov.

Garrett County Department of Social Services Assistance Program

Ruth Enlow Library - Kitzmiller 288 W Main St, Kitzmiller

Occurring on the 3rd Thursday of the month at the Kitzmiller branch, representatives from the Garrett County Department of Social Services will be in the library to serve the community through their assistance outreach program. Customers can come see a DSS staff person at any of these locations to pick up paperwork, drop off paperwork, apply for services like SNAP, CASH Assistance, and Medical Assistance, or just to ask questions about the programs and services offered by our agency. Staff can also provide a referral to other community agencies if we do not have a program to address the person’s needs. ANYONE can access ANY of these locations. This schedule provides flexibility to our customers who may be working in communities away from their home or who may be facing transportation challenges. These locations also provide support to our customers by making DSS forms available to customers during the location’s open hours of business. Customers can look for the file box labeled “DSS FORMS” to pick up forms, information, or a pre-paid envelope in which to return completed forms to our office for processing. Come ride with us: ALL ABILITIES WELCOME! Meet at 5:15 pm at The Dip; wheels down at 5:30 pm. Return by 7:30/8:00pm-ish PLEASE SIGN UP IN ADVANCE IF YOU CAN MAKE IT: https://x.gldn.io/e/sZcaRReAf5b The ladies will begin with a basic trail riding skills review and then ride a portion of the trails. This is your chance to meet other bike riders (or want-to-be riders) stopping periodically along the way to reinforce skills needed to tackle the trail and to (definitely) take pictures of our bikes and wildflowers. This FREE ride is for beginner-level riders looking for advice on local trail / MTB riding and interested in improving their skills in a noncompetitive atmosphere. And intermediate and advanced level riders looking to meet new biking friends. We will ride about 3-6 miles of beginner-level terrain with some small uphill sections and fun, flowy sections. Questions on MTB skills are encouraged, and the intention is to have fun and gain confidence on the trails. The ride is open to all female or female-identifying riders. Presenter: Craig Rhinehart Craig Rhinehart is an entrepreneur, former senior executive, and railroad history advocate whose work combines business leadership and historical interpretation. A former IBM executive and lifelong student of railroading with hands-on railroad industry experience, he is the founder of Railroad History Reimagined and a volunteer with railroad museums and historical organizations. He also mentors business owners through university, government, and veterans programs.
