The Deep Creek Watershed Foundation (DCWF) is continuing a multi-layered initiative focused on improving water quality throughout the Deep Creek Lake Watershed. Following the collection and review of data from commissioned tributary studies, the Foundation has identified septic stewardship and wastewater management as critical priorities for protecting the long-term health of the watershed and lake. This effort directly supports Goal 9 of the Deep Creek Watershed Management Plan, which seeks to “protect the watershed from the adverse effects of impaired septic systems and ensure adequate capacity and management of public sewerage systems.” DCWF is currently working on several projects designed to encourage proper stewardship and maintenance of onsite septic systems to help preserve and protect water quality in the Deep Creek Lake Watershed. The DCWF will hold a Community Meeting on August 3rd 2026, at 5:30 PM at the Garrett College Performing Arts Center and will feature guest speakers. The first speaker is Eric Null, former Deep Creek Lake Manager and Foundation advisor, who will address the adverse effects from failing septic systems on DCL and the watershed.
