JTF will host multiple Public Skate Sessions at $6 per skater, plus an additional fee for skate rental. The 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM sessions on weekdays are $6, with skate rental included in the session price. Please note: the rink will be closed on Wednesdays, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. The JTF Ice Rink can also be reserved for group rentals. For reservations, please contact them directly. Time slots for parties will be available on Saturdays and Sundays. Joy of Christmas Light Show
This year's Joy of Christmas Light Show is scheduled to begin at 5:00 PM on November 29, 2024, at the Oakland Community Center, 14 N 8th Street Oakland, Maryland. The one-hour show features over 38,000 individually controlled lights and runs from 5:00 PM - 10:00 PM November 29, 2024 – January 1, 2025. The show starts at the top of each hour, with the last show starting at 9:00 PM. The show can be viewed from your vehicle by tuning to 87.9 FM or by using the free PulseMesh app. You can also watch from outside and enjoy the interactive dance floor and light-up sofas. The show is all-original for this event, combining classic and modern Christmas music, along with some original Christmas parodies of well-known popular hits. The show is completely free to the public and family-friendly. This year's theme, "Big News," involves the adventures of Ray Porter and his trusty companion, Digger, who are striving to become the best news reporters in the area. The show is created and produced from scratch by staff of The CHIPS Network in Oakland and is sponsored by several area businesses, individuals, and organizations.

Visitors are invited to Swallow Falls State Park to hike the 1.25-mile trail, exploring the old-growth eastern hemlock and white pine forest while admiring the beautiful waterfalls. The entrance fee is per vehicle: $3 for MD residents and $5 for out-of-state residents. The trail may have ice and be slippery, so dressing warmly with appropriate hiking equipment is recommended. Join Deep Creek Adventure Bureau, Seth Dewitt, and Chris Nichols on February 2 at 12:00 PM at Deep Creek Lake Lion's Club for an informal group hike, snowshoe, cross-country ski, or fat tire bike ride! Some equipment will be available to borrow—contact me if you’re coming and need gear, and we’ll do our best to hook you up! We’ll be exploring the Browning Trail System. The largest loop is about 2.4 miles, but we can go longer or shorter depending on the weather, group, gear, and interest! Enjoy a bonfire, hot cocoa, and PRIZES! ❄️🔥 Remember: if you don’t have fun in the snow, you’ll still have the same amount of snow—but less happiness! 😊
