To help celebrate National Library Week 2022 and Garrett County’s 150th anniversary, the Ruth Enlow Library will be hosting a “Dinosaurs Rock” Museum Show at all five branches. Participants will see life-size and genuine specimens while enjoying an interactive, fun, and educational show. The event will also include a loose fossil dig with real take-home specimens.

The schedule of events will continue throughout the week with Dinosaurs Rock shows on Monday, April 4 at 4:00pm and 6:00pm in Oakland, on Tuesday, April 5 at 10:30am in Kitzmiller and at 4:00pm in Accident, on Wednesday, April 6 at 9:20am and 10:30am in Friendsville, and at 4:00pm in Grantsville.

National Library Week (April 3 – 9, 2022) is a time to celebrate our nation’s libraries, library workers’ contributions and promote library use and support.  First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and observed in libraries across the country each April. All types of libraries – school, public, academic and special – participate.

Other activities taking place during the week include the Friendsville Library Open House on April 4, 2022 from 4:30pm – 6:30pm and then on April 7, 2022, all library branches will be participating in “Chalk It Up to Civility: A Community Collaboration” with the Allegany County Library System. “Participants are encouraged to use sidewalk chalk to create messages and works of art throughout the day to express shared positive values. Whether creating or stopping to view an image, the goal is to help people to reflect upon our everyday lives and to ignite a sense of solidarity in our neighborhoods and streets.”
