The Deep Creek Watershed Foundation (DCWF) is honored to announce the receipt of a remarkable $100,000 donation from the Estate of Phil St. Moritz. This generous gift reflects Phil’s lifelong love of Deep Creek Lake, his passion for boating, and his commitment to preserving the natural resources that brought him so much joy.
An accomplished entrepreneur, philanthropist, and longtime supporter of the Deep Creek community, Phil found his greatest happiness on the water. His connection to the lake became even stronger when he purchased Bill’s Marine Service in 2003, combining his love of boating with his business endeavors.
“Deep Creek was a very special place to Phil,” said Brian Fiscus, CFO of The St. Moritz Group of Companies. “He understood how important it is to care for the lake and watershed so future generations can enjoy the same beauty, recreation, and sense of peace that meant so much to him.”
Founded in 2016, the Deep Creek Watershed Foundation supports projects and initiatives that help implement the Watershed Management Plan and protect the Deep Creek watershed through scientific research, environmental stewardship, and educational programs. This extraordinary contribution will strengthen the Foundation’s ability to continue its important work in partnership with local, state, and community organizations.
“Phil believed in making an impact,” said Bob Nickel, General Manager of Bill’s Marine Service. “This donation is a fitting tribute to a man who truly loved Deep Creek Lake and understood its value because he experienced it firsthand.”
The Foundation is deeply grateful for this meaningful gift and the legacy it represents.
“The Foundation humbly and gratefully accepts this most generous donation from the Estate of Phil St. Moritz,” said Bob Hoffmann, President of the Deep Creek Watershed Foundation. “This wonderful gift will enable us to continue the important work of protecting and preserving the Deep Creek watershed for future generations.”
We extend our sincere appreciation to the Estate of Phil St. Moritz for helping ensure that Deep Creek Lake remains a treasured resource for all who live, work, and play here.
