Summer may be coming to an end but there is still a great way to get good use out of your boat, personal watercraft, boating accessories, and even snowmobiles. The Deep Creek Lake Lions Club, which holds its annual boat auction every June, is seeking donations from the public for the next auction to be held June 8, 2024. “This is a great way for local or vacation home boat owners to help the local community while gaining a potential tax write-off and saving on storage fees over the winter,” stated club Treasurer Chris Nichols, who manages the annual event auction and donations throughout the year.
According to club president Mike O’Brien, “We accept almost any boat or personal watercraft, as we know from past experience there is a great demand in the area for ‘slightly‘ and even more-than-slightly-used boats, as we prove every year at our auction which raises tens of thousands of dollars annually that goes right back into our community programs. We also welcome donations of snowmobiles and any kind of boating accessory.”
The Deep Creek Lions Club serves the Garrett County, MD area with the annual Blind Skiers and Blind Campers initiatives. The Deep Creek Lake Lions also provide community service through financial assistance for vision-related healthcare, eyeglass recycling, support to local and global organizations, and the operation of the McHenry Community Park at 1249 Bumble Bee Road. The club meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 6:00 PM at the park pavilion on Bumble Bee Road until the weather turns colder.
