Winter may soon be upon us here in Garrett County but members of the Deep Creek Lake Lions Club took advantage of the recent early-October warm weather to join together to clean up “their” section of Rt. 219.
According to club president Mike O’Brien, “We have a number of formal programs that we are identified with, such as blind camping and blind skiing, among others, but we also like to get together “informally,” have a little fun and fellowship and help out the community from an aesthetic standpoint. We were thrilled to get together recently under a warm blue sky and we also removed eight large bags of trash from our patch of road, helping the community look just a little bit cleaner for our locals and visitors.”
The Deep Creek Lions Club serves the Garrett County, MD area with the annual Blind Skiers and Blind Campers initiatives. The Deep Creek Lake Lions also provide community service through financial assistance for vision-related healthcare, eyeglass recycling, support to local and global organizations, and the operation of the McHenry Community Park at 1249 Bumble Bee Road. The club meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 6:00 PM at a local restaurant or meeting space.
