The weather today will be mostly cloudy. A chance of snow showers, with a slight chance of freezing rain this morning. Blowing snow this morning with visibility one-quarter mile or less at times. Little or no additional snow accumulation. Ice accumulation around a trace. Cooler, with highs in the lower 20s. West winds of around 15 to 20 mph, with gusts up to 40 mph. The chance of precipitation is 40%.

Maryland Fishing Report as of December 10: Good winter action for smallmouth and walleye on the upper Potomac. Deep Creek Lake anglers can target northern pike and walleye, with possible ice fishing if cold weather continues. Trout stocking may begin in January, depending on conditions. Largemouth bass are holding deep near structure, and chain pickerel remain active statewide around sunken wood.

The blizzard warnings yesterday were cause for caution (and it was certainly windy) but, by my measurements, we only received 4.25″ of snow in Oakland.

Maryland ranks as the 5th loneliest state at Christmas, with an estimated 117,768 residents expected to spend the holiday alone, according to a new study based on a survey of more than 3,000 adults who live alone, highlighting how the season of togetherness can be especially difficult for many across the state.

The Rural Maryland Council held its 2025 Annual Meeting and Rural Impact Awards on November 19 in Annapolis, celebrating seven outstanding advocates for rural communities. Honorees included John and Ann Richards for volunteer service, BAAM and Community Behavioral Health for community development, the Frederick County Agricultural Innovation Grant Program for economic impact, Delegate Steven J. Arentz as Rural Champion, and the late Delegate Charles J. Otto with the Rural Legacy Award. RMC continues to support strong, connected, and thriving rural communities across Maryland. Also, the Rural Maryland Council re-elected its 2026 officers and welcomed new board members, continuing its mission to support thriving and sustainable rural communities across Maryland.

Garrett County Public Schools is now accepting public feedback on the proposed 2026–27 school year calendar, including an August 31 start date and a June 3 end date, with built-in professional development and inclement weather make-up days—review the full calendar and submit your input by January 1, 2026, before the Board votes on January 13, 2026.
