Martin Luther King, Jr weekend is the weekend where the federal holiday in King’s honor is on the Monday following the weekend. King was the chief spokesperson for nonviolent activism in the Civil Rights Movement, which protested racial discrimination in federal and state law and civil society. The movement led to several groundbreaking legislative reforms in the United States. President Ronald Reagan signed the holiday into law in 1983.
