March 24, 2023: Happy Friday!

Congratulations to local friends Judy A. Carbone (representing AAUW-Garrett Branch) and Cheryl DeBerry (representing Garrett County Department of Technology & Communications) for being named to The Daily Record’s Maryland’s Top 100 Women list.

The weather today will be showers, with a slight chance of thunderstorms in the morning, then showers in the afternoon. Highs around 50 and a low of 39. Northwest winds of around 5 mph, becoming east in the afternoon. The chance of rain is near 100%. Saturday will be showers in the morning, then partly sunny with a chance of showers in the afternoon. Breezy, with highs in the lower 60s and a low of 36.Southeast winds of around 15 to 20 mph, becoming south 15 to 25 mph in the afternoon. The chance of rain is 80%. Sunday will be sunny, with highs in the lower 50s and a low of 35. The chance of rain is 25%.

Maryland’s Mid-Atlantic accent ranks 18th in an infographic, making it less understood. It blends Northern and Southern features, lacks strong regional characteristics, flattens or nasalizes some vowels, and drops “r” sounds. Accent variations exist among individuals and regions in Maryland.
