With summer underway, Maryland Department of Natural Resources scientists are urging the public to watch for freshwater algae mats, which can pose health risks to dogs and other animals.

The Board of Public Works has approved over $4.3 million for 20 projects through the DNR’s Greenspace Equity Program, supporting green space improvements in underserved communities across 14 counties. Two more projects totaling $567,382 are pending approval.

The Garrett County Democratic Central Committee held its Annual Roosevelt-Kennedy Dinner on June 17 at Brewery and the Beast, drawing over 120 attendees. This year’s “Real Heroes” theme honored local and national heroes, as noted by GCDCC member Lillia Rose.

This week’s camp theme is Amazing World of Animals! Campers will discover how animals inspire both our world and art. They’ll visit local artisans, begin a special project with Master Bird Carver Gary Yoder, meet some furry friends brought by special guests, and enjoy a week full of fun, creativity, and exploration.

Nature Storytime & Walk begins this morning at 10:00 AM at Sang Run State Park. You will hear nature-themed stories, followed by a short guided walk on one of the park’s trails.

Deep Creek Pottery’s Summer Art Camp runs this week from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM for kids ages 9–12. Campers will enjoy pottery, clay, canvas painting, mosaics, tie-dye, snacks, and more.

All Earth Eco Tours’ Kids Summer Farm Day Camp is set for this week at Backbone Farm for ages 4–12. Kids enjoy farming, nature play, art, cooking, and more, ending with a farm tour and dinner. There’s still time to register!

The DCL 100 Par Tee Kickoff for the DCL 100 Golf Classic takes place today at 5:30 PM at the Red Barn Inn.
