December 22, 2022: So far in Oakland today, we’ve received about 2″ of snow and now it is turning to freezing rain. I’m not sure what to expect as far as this winter storm is concerned but I’ve seen reports that tomorrow will be blizzard conditions. Everyone stay safe!

Also, I wanted to share this photo from one of many parties this holiday season! I was so happy to catch up with friends last night at Firewater. Left to right in the photo below are Jessica, me, Haeli, and Allison!

The weather today will be freezing rain and snow. Sleet in the morning, then rain in the afternoon. Snow and sleet accumulation of 2 to 4 Inches. Ice accumulation of up to one-quarter of an inch—highs in the lower 30s and a low of 18. Southeast winds of around 5 to 10 mph, with gusts up to 30 mph. The chance of precipitation is near 100%.

Due to the impending inclement weather and the shift to Virtual Learning Days, all Garrett County Public Schools’ afternoon and evening activities are canceled for Thursday and Friday, December 22-23, 2022.

This winter, the Maryland Department of Natural Resources is kicking off the first comprehensive study of wild turkeys ever conducted in the state. The 3-year research project aims to answer many questions about factors potentially impacting turkey populations.

A Walk Down Holiday Lane event was originally scheduled for tonight and tomorrow but I think it’s canceled with the other public school events.
