Chris Burnett for Congress: A Marine’s Mission for Maryland’s 6th Congressional District

Chris Burnett, a 22-year Marine Corps veteran, decorated officer, and legal scholar, announces his candidacy for the U.S. House of Representatives in Maryland’s 6th Congressional District (MD CD-6). Running a grassroots campaign rooted in accountability, integrity, and selfless service, Burnett pledges to fight for hardworking families, small business owners, law enforcement, veterans, strengthen our military and secure our borders. Unlike Rep. April McClain Delaney, Burnett lives in Gaithersburg, sharing the district’s challenges.

“Delaney’s $90 million wealth, self-funded campaign, and MD CD-8 residence in Potomac disconnects her from CD-6’s struggles. MD CD-6 needs a representative who lives here and understands our struggles,” said Burnett. He and his wife, Kadiatou, a naturalized citizen who arrived from Guinea as a political asylee, have raised four children while he served in the Marine Corps. According to Burnett, “We’ve lived the American Dream, but like many families in Garrett, Allegany, Frederick, and Montgomery counties, we’re struggling with rising costs.” His family’s resilience reflects CD-6’s challenges, fueling his commitment to serve.

Burnett served 22 years as a Marine Corps lawyer, leading Marines in combat zones like Iraq, advising senior commanders on complex legal and national security issues, and shaping national security and foreign policy at the Pentagon, U.S. Southern Command, and Marine Forces Cyberspace Command. His sound judgment and results-driven leadership ensured mission success across seven duty assignments and five Middle East deployments. Burnett said, “My service was about setting the conditions for others to succeed. I’ll bring that leadership to MD CD-6, tackling the rising cost of living.”

Burnett has a range of priorities for CD-6. He is a strong voice for parental rights in education. With a focus on accountability and transparency, Burnett will work to lower taxes and regulations for families, farmers, and small businesses. He will bring tax money home for rebuilding roads, bridges, and innovative technology to boost local economies. Burnett is an advocate for expanding access to quality healthcare, including mental health resources. He supports strengthening borders while also pursing comprehensive immigration reform.

Burnett consistently stands with law enforcement. He is advancing a strong military and foreign policy to keep America safe. In Congress, Burnett will look to rebuild warfighting capabilities to recruit and retain the best and the brightest for the U.S. Armed Forces. He is an advocate for improved VA services and job training for veterans. Burnett, not a career politician, is a battle-tested leader who believes in expanding opportunities with pragmatic solutions.

Chris Burnett and his wife, Kadiatou, live in Gaithersburg with their four children, embodying the American Dream as well as the many of the struggles plaguing families and small businesses in CD-6.
