Annually, newly hired certificated staff hired by Garrett County Public Schools (GCPS) participate in the BEST Class in preparation for the new school year. BEST, Building Experiences for Successful Teachers, was recently held at the GCPS Central Office for the newly certified staff and experienced staff new to GCPS. During the weeklong event, participants gain an overview of the essential practices of the school system.
Some topics include Best Practices for Distance Learning & Introduction to Schoology, Celebrating Differences in Our Learners, Closing the Achievement Gap, Emergency Preparedness, and Understanding the Student Handbook. Participants also had the opportunity to work with their respective instructional directors and principals.
On behalf of the Garrett County Board of Education and Garrett County Public Schools, Interim Superintendent Dr. Brenda McCartney said, “We extend a warm welcome to all new hires as they begin their journey of educating GCPS students.”
