This year, I decided to do something a little different for Mother’s Day. Instead of brunch or flowers, I took my mom to shoot things with a bow and arrow.
Yes… archery!
Wisp Resort’s Mountain Coaster and Adventure Park opened for the season, and I thought, why not check out the archery at Mountain Adventures? Neither of us had done it in… well, EVER for me, and about 40 years for her. Apparently, she used to shoot in college and really enjoyed it, which I never knew.
When we got there, we were greeted by the cashier Kayla who got us all set up with our tickets. Then, we went outside, just behind the building, for the range. Turns out the bow was a little too tough for my mom to pull back, I’ll be the first to tell you that she’s stubborn but not Hercules, so the attendant adjusted things to make it work for her. I missed getting the attendant’s name but she was super helpful and very patient with us!
You get 30 minutes on the range, which is just enough time to realize archery is harder than it looks. But we had a blast. We laughed a lot and it was definitely something different to do.
The archery is tucked into the Mountain Adventures area at Wisp on the left side as you enter the main resort parking lot. That’s the same spot as the gem mining, the Chipmunk Challenge ropes course, zipline, and mini golf, so it’s perfect to add a little something extra to your day at the resort.
I don’t know if archery will become our new Mother’s Day tradition, but it definitely beat waiting over an hour at a crowded restaurant.
