The Garrett County Republican Women’s Club is accepting applications for the 2022 Ruth Umbel Memorial Scholarships. The annual awards were named for life-long Republican activist and retired educator Ruth Hinebaugh Umbel. One will be awarded to a graduating senior from Northern Garrett High School and one will be awarded to a graduating senior from Southern Garrett High School, without regard for age, sex, race or political affiliation.
This year’s scholarships are $600 each. Club President Luanne Ruddell advises, “We are thrilled that we are able to raise the scholarship awards because of an increase in ticket sales for our annual quilt raffle. We thank all who purchased tickets.”
Recipients must be continuing as full-time students at any accredited institution of higher education that awards degrees/certifications, such as, Vo-Tech, Associate degree, or Bachelor’s degree. The scholarships will be given upon proof of enrollment at an accredited institution of higher education.

Additional information and scholarship applications are available in the Counseling Center at Northern and in the Guidance Office at Southern. Questions can also be messaged to the Club’s Facebook page.
