A Garrett County Tradition: Dunk Weekend Returns to Deep Creek Lake
Deep Creek Lake will host a full lineup of Special Olympics Maryland events from February 19–21, 2026, continuing a long-standing Garrett County tradition that brings the community together in support of athletes and Unified® teammates across the state.
Cool Schools Dunk — February 19, 2026 | 10:00 AM–1:00 PM
The weekend begins with the 6th annual Cool Schools Deep Creek Dunk. Students, educators, and local supporters will take a cold plunge into Deep Creek Lake to benefit the Garrett County Public Schools Unified Champion Schools program. Special Olympics Maryland and Garrett County Public Schools partner on this event along with year-round inclusion initiatives that foster a welcoming school culture for all students.
Super Dunk — February 20, 2026 | 10:00 AM–9:00 PM
On Friday, the first-ever Super Dunk will take place as part of the 27th annual MSP/NRP Deep Creek Dunk. Participants will complete 12 individual Dunks throughout the day, adding a new and exciting endurance-style challenge to this year’s activities.
2026 Deep Creek Dunk — February 21, 2026 | 11:00 AM–3:00 PM
Saturday features the highlight of the weekend—the 27th Annual MSP/NRP Deep Creek Dunk. This signature event supports more than 25,000 Special Olympics Maryland athletes and Unified® teammates, bringing together the community for one of the region’s most anticipated winter traditions.
2026 Winter Games — February 22–24, 2026
Following Dunk weekend, Special Olympics Maryland will host the 2026 Winter Games, bringing athletes, coaches, and volunteers together for three days of competition.
