Cybercriminals are targeting users of digital payment applications.

  • These include fake text messages pretending to be from legitimate financial institutions and asking customers to verify if they have started an instant money transfer.
  • This results in victims unwittingly sending funds to the criminals using digital payment apps.
  • If the recipient responds to the automated text message, the criminals call the victim from a number that appears to match the legitimate 1-800 support number for that financial institution
  • If you get a text message or a phone call about payment apps — even if it looks official — just ignore it and call the number on the back of your bank payment card.

We make every effort to ensure your personal data is secure. Learn the phishing red flags, helpful online practices and ways to report fraud by visting our Security page.
