7:30 p.m. at the Lake House Maryland's bear biologist, Harry Spiker, will discuss black bear behavior, biology, habitat and history, as well as the state's management program and how people can learn to coexist with black bears in western Maryland.

8:00 p.m. Scales & Tales Campfire Join us for one of the Maryland Park Service’s most iconic programs – Scales & Tales! Roast a marshmallow over the campfire and get the opportunity to meet some of educational ambassador animals that call the Discovery Center home, and the stories of how they came to be in our care. In the event of rain, program will be held in the Discovery Room in the lower level of the Discovery Center.

New Germany’s CCC Days
Photos and artifacts from New Germany's "CCC days" - when this area served as one of the nation's Civilian Conservation Corps camps - will be on display. A ranger will be on hand to explain the legacy of the CCC and the important role it had in the development of New Germany State Park.
Find out more »Maryland Hunter Education Course
New Germany State Park will host a three-day Maryland Hunter Education Course on Sept. 10, 12 and 14. The class is for first-time hunters obtaining their hunter education certification. Students must attend all three sessions to be eligible. Any student under the age of 13 must have an adult (21 years of age or older) accompany them during all three sessions. Students must register for the course in advance. State park boat ramp facility will be closed Saturday, September 14th from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm and Sunday, September 15th from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm for the Savage Man Triathlon.

September 28: Lend a Hand for Public Lands! 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. at Trailhead - Parking Lot #5 (Shine only) Join staff for a volunteer work day in celebration of National Public Lands Day. We will construct and install a bulletin board at the trailhead and paint sign posts. This is best suited for ages 12 and up. Please bring work gloves.
