Veterans Day Parade Planned in Oakland

November 11 @ 10:30 am

American Legion Post 71 will hold a Veterans Day parade in downtown Oakland beginning at 10:30 AM, Thursday, November 11, 2021. The entire community is invited to join the American Legion and the Town of Oakland, MD, for its annual Veterans Day observance, honoring and recognizing all U.S. Military personnel for their patriotism and willingness to serve their country.

The parade will start on Liberty Street and will travel to the Oakland Veterans Park at the intersection of Third and Oak Street, where a ceremony will be held at 11:00 AM.

Please note the parade route has been changed from past years to accommodate parade participants. As opposed to traveling Second Street and up Alder Street, the route will now start on Liberty Street, cross Second Street and travel to Third Street/RT 219 via Green Street. The parade will travel Green Street the opposite way of normal traffic patterns, then make a right turn onto Third Street up to Veterans Park.

The patriotic ceremony at Oakland Veterans Park will start with the centennial observance of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier with retired Air Force Major Melissa Rank of the Youghiogheny Glades Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR). The regular Veterans Day ceremony will follow.
