The Maryland State Banjo, Fiddle and Mandolin Championships are scheduled for Friday, October 11th and Saturday, October 12th. The State Championships are part of the 52nd Annual Autumn Glory Festival. The banjo and mandolin championships are Friday evening and the fiddle championship will take place on Saturday evening at Southern Garrett High School in Oakland, Maryland.

Once again, the state competition will be conducted by The Greater Oakland Business Association & the Town of Oakland.  They are now taking contestant registrations. To register as a contestant, you can now download the necessary forms at

Categories consist of Junior (age 15 & under), Seniors (age 60 and over), State Champion (Open Class) and the Clawhammer (for Banjo only).  First, second and third place all receives cash prizes and trophies.

There is no fee to enter if entry(s) are received by by the date on the entry form. Each contestant must pay a $5 entry fee for every category entered after that date.   Questions and forms can be remitted to:

The state competition is sponsored in part by Rob Michael, CLU State Farm Insurance and the Garrett County & Maryland State Arts Council.

Tickets will go on sale on September 15 and are available at Oakland City Hall, Gregg’s Pharmacy and Deep Creek Pharmacy.  Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door, under 10 are free.  The doors open at 6pm and the championships begin at 7:00pm.
