Bike/Hike fundraiser and "Scout Skills Show" at Canal Place

The Potomac District, which serves local scouts in the Tri-state area, invites local youth, families, and community members to participate in their first annual bike/hike fundraiser and “Scout Skills Show” event to be held Saturday, July 31 at Canal Place in Cumberland.

100% of the funds raised at the Potomac District Bike/Hike fundraiser will benefit local area scouts in Allegany, Garrett, Mineral, Hampshire, Hardy, and Grant counties. Registration for the Bike/Hike Fundraiser portion of the event is $10 and open to all scouts, youth, adults, families, and community members. All participants will receive a boxed lunch, an event t-shirt, and an event patch. Prizes will also be awarded for additional funds raised.  Participants can register online at https://tinyurl.com/potobikehike or by phoning the Potomac District office at 301-729-1300

The Bike Hike fundraiser will start at 9 am with participant check-in beginning at 8:30 am. Registration is online, and the check-in station is at Canal Place.  Cycling participants will have the option to bike on the C&O Canal towpath trail to North Branch Lockhouse 57 and return to Canal Place, or on the Great Allegheny Passage to Woodcock Hollow and return to Canal Place.  Both options are approximately ten miles each way.  Or participants can choose to do a 4-mile hike on either trail and return to Canal Place. Prizes will be awarded for pledges raised.

The Scouts Skills Show portion of Saturday’s event will begin at noon and is free and open to the public.   The show will be based upon the popular Scout Mall show with local Scouting units showcasing their skills with interactive displays and demonstrations, emphasizing scouting experiences, camping, and adventure sports.

Sponsorship opportunities will be available.  For more information, to register, or to donate, please visit:  https://tinyurl.com/potobikehike or contact Michelle Brenneman at the Potomac District Scout office; 301-729-1300
