General Information:
The CAOS Paddlesports Camp for 14–16-year-old campers is a day camp designed to introduce the basic skills related to a variety of paddlesports on flat and moving water. The camp will be facilitated by faculty and/or staff of the Garrett College Center for Adventure and Outdoor Studies. Among other things, participants will learn about equipment, paddle strokes, and river dynamics.
Monday–Wednesday, participants will meet with the camp instructors at the Garrett College Community Aquatics & Recreation Complex (CARC) at 9:00 AM. Participants and instructors will return to the CARC at 12:30 PM on these days. Thursday will also begin and end at the CARC, but it will be a longer day, running from 9:00 AM until 3:00 PM.
Campers will travel in Garrett College vehicles from the CARC to a paddling site that is appropriate to the paddlers’ ability levels and the current weather conditions. Sites will include local and regional rivers and lakes. Games, initiatives, and day hikes may also be included. No experience is necessary to participate.
