2020 Annual Genealogy Lecture (Virtual Event)

Join the Ruth Enlow Libraries of Garrett County for the Maryland State Library Resource Center’s 19th Annual Genealogy Lecture Series, featuring internationally known genealogist Tony Burroughs. Mr. Burroughs will present the following lectures:
- The Nature of Genealogy
- Oral History: The Starting Point for Genealogy
- Researching Cemeteries and Funeral Homes
- Creating Order Out of Chaos

Burroughs is founder and CEO of the Center for Black Genealogy. He taught genealogy at Chicago State University for fifteen years, and has been featured in numerous national and international television shows, such as Who Do You Think You Are? (TLC), and Roots Remembered (BBC).
His bestselling book, Black Roots: A Beginners Guide to Tracing the African American Family Tree is now in its fifth printing.
Burroughs has been quoted in newspapers and popular publications throughout the world like the New York Times, People Magazine, Ebony, and Jet Magazine. He has received many honors including: the Distinguished Service Award from the National Genealogical Society, the Rabbi Malcolm H. Stearn Humanitarian Award from the Federation of Genealogical Societies, the Lowell Volkel Medal from the Illinois Genealogical Society and Fellow of the Utah Genealogical Association. Burroughs has traced his family history eight generations.
