Looking for antiques and vintage items?  Come on down to the 44th Annual Civic Club Antique, Vintage & Collectible Sale at the Oakland Community Center (formerly the Armory) at 8th and High Street.  Mike will be there working (not as an antique) in the kitchen and out-front on Saturday afternoon. Open Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The 50th annual Autumn Glory Grand Feature Parade will be in Downtown Oakland starting at 1:00pm on Saturday.  Be sure to get there early as there will be street closures and lots of people and traffic.

Governor Hogan will be coming out to Western Maryland to ride in the Autumn Glory parade and visit several sites throughout Garrett and Allegany counties.

The Autumn Glory Festival Car Show Mountain Top Cruisers, the biggest car show in Garrett County, will be in Oakland from 9:00am-3:00pm on Sunday.

A Bear in a Bikini? That’s what the Friends of Deep Creek Lake have planned for their Autumn Glory Parade float. Actually, it is not uncommon to see a bear swimming in the lake this time of year. The next DCL Policy and Review Board meeting is scheduled for October 23, 6:00pm-8:00pm at the Discovery Center.

Ms. Jennifer Browne, Director of the Frostburg State University Center for the Literary Arts and a lecturer for the Department of English, will give a reading, “New Short Works”, as part of the Joan Crawford Lecture Series presentations on Wednesday, October 18, from 7:00pm until 8:00pm in room 511 on the Garrett College McHenry campus.  For more information, persons may contact GC Professor Jack Dubose at 301.387.3008 orjack.dubose@garrettcollege.edu.

The first segment of Maryland’s muzzleloader deer season opens statewide October 19th. This is one of several deer hunting opportunities offered in the state and typically coincides with pleasant fall weather. The early muzzleloader season runs from Oct. 19-21 in Deer Management Regions A and B, which includes Garrett County.

The Ruth Enlow library will be participating in the third annual Maryland S.T.E.M. Festival with official events scheduled at the Friendsville, Grantsville, Kitzmiller, and Oakland locations in early November.
